Wouldn't it be cool if you had that white check mark in a blue cloud on your Twitter profile? If you get one, it means you hold a "verified account." Twitter uses verification to establish the authenticity of tweeters, and does so proactively—they concentrate on "highly sought users in music, acting, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, advertising, business, and other key interest areas." It's not easy to get verified, but there are some things you can do to make it more likely.

Let us know what is important first .

Step 1: Determine if you qualify for a verified Twitter account.
Step 2: Embed a Twitter “Follow” button on your website.
Step 3: Read the Twitter verified account terms.
Step 4: Find out how to apply for a verified account.
Step 5: Wait for Twitter to respond.

Understand that you cannot request verification : Twitter does not accept verification requests from the general public, and the selection process for getting verified is completely opaque. Twitter does not release the information that it considers when verifying accounts. Your best bet for getting verified is to be an account that has a high risk of being impersonated (famous).

1) Reasons for verification include being a highly recognizable public figure (musicians, actors, athletes, artists, public officials, public or government agencies, etc.), or if your name and likeness is parodied or impersonated on multiple Twitter accounts, leading to identity confusion.[1]
2) Twitter will not consider you for verification based on your number of followers. Twitter urges Tweeters to "Please note that follower count is not a factor in determining whether an account meets our criteria for verification."[1] Similarly, the number of tweets you post is irrelevant. [2]
3) For more information, read the Verified Account terms. These terms explain what a verified account is, what it means to be verified, who has the verified badge, identifying a verified account, etc. They can be found here.

Link your Twitter profile from your official web page : This may not help get you verified, but it let's people know that your account is authentic. Also include your website's address in your Twitter profile. It's most important that you link to your
Twitter account, as linking sites from the Twitter account doesn't prove that the Twitter account is legitimate.

1) Twitter recommends embedding a "Follow" button on your official web page or blog. This will ensure that your readers are easily finding your real account.
2) You should also link to your Twitter profile in your other social profiles such as Facebook and LinkedIn. All of these links will help verify that you are who you say you are.

Wait to be contacted by Twitter's @Verified account for instructions on verifying your account : If Twitter decides that you qualify for a verified account, they will reach out to you via direct message. Click the link in the direct message to be taken to finish the process.

Complete the verification process by completing the three steps : The final part of the process has 3 parts:
 (1) Learn how to Tweet effectively,
 (2) Connect with other Interesting Twitter Users, and
 (3) Protect your Account.
 (4) Learn how to Tweet effectively gives you a choice between 2 tweets and asks you to choose         which one is better. It has the form of a quiz, but there will be no negative effects if you do not answer correctly. It is designed to teach you to increase your Twitter followers.
 (5) Connect with other Interesting Twitter Users gives you the option to follow other verified accounts. Twitter believes that this gives you more legitimacy as a verified user.
 (6) Protect your Account asks you to enter a phone number that Twitter can call if there are any problems with your account. Once you have completed this step, your account will be verified.

Do not change your account information: Once you have received a verification badge, it is important to keep your account information the same. Changing information, such as your profile image, can cause Twitter to remove the badge, forcing you to contact them again.

Be an exemplary Twitter user:  Although Twitter claims that the number of tweets a user posts does not affect their decision to verify an account, being an active and engaged Twitter-user is still very important for the verification process. Post frequently, be interesting and topical, use tags, ask questions and reply to your followers, never troll, and follow other verified accounts.

Hire an agent. Most celebs don't petition Twitter for a verified badge by themselves; they have an agent do it for them. Hiring an agent will lend your "public figure" status more legitimacy, especially if you can find an agency with prior connections to Twitter.

Buy advertising :  Though Twitter does not have an official stance on this, several Twitter-verified companies have indicated that spending $5000/month on Twitter advertising will also get (and keep) your account verified

Practice “drop, cover and hold on” in each safe place. If you do not have sturdy furniture to hold on to, sit on the floor next to an interior wall and cover your head and neck with your arms. Keep a flashlight and sturdy shoes by each person's bed in case the earthquake strikes in the middle of the night.

Before an earthquake occurs:

-Fasten shelves securely to walls, and place heavy objects on lower shelves.
-Store breakable items in low, closed cabinets.
-Hang items such as pictures and mirrors away from beds and anywhere people sit.
-Brace hanging light fixtures.
-Repair known defective electrical wiring and gas connections.
-Strap your water heater to studs in the wall and bolt it to the floor.
-Repair any large existing cracks in walls or foundations.
-Store poisons such as pesticides and herbicides, as well as flammable liquids, on bottoms shelves of  latched cabinets.
-Identify safe places in each room (under sturdy furniture, against inside walls, away from glass).
-Locate safe places outdoors (away from buildings, trees, electrical lines, and bridges).
-Teach family members how to turn off gas, electricity, and water.
-Teach children how to dial 911 in an emergency.
-Have disaster supplies on hand (flashlight and extra batteries, battery operated radio, fist aid kit with manual, emergency food and drinking water, non electric can opener, cash, sturdy shoes).
-Develop an emergency communications plan in case family members are separated.

During an earthquake (indoors):

- Take cover beneath a sturdy piece of furniture or against an indoor wall away from glass that might break.
- Stay inside! The most dangerous thing you can do during an earthquake is to try to leave.

During an earthquake (outdoors)

Move into the open, away from buildings, street lights, and overhead utility wires. Stay there until the shaking stops.

During an earthquake (in a moving vehicle):

Try to find a clear area away from buildings, trees, overpasses, and overhead wires.
Stop quickly and stay in the vehicle.
Once the shaking has stopped, proceed with caution. Bridges and ramps may have been damaged during the shaking.

Dealing with pets:

The behavior of pets may change after an earthquake, and they may become aggressive or defensive.
Leash dogs or keep them in a fenced area.
Pets may not be allowed in emergency shelters, so prepare an emergency supply that includes a several day supply of dry pet food and a large water container.

After the earthquake:

Be prepared for aftershocks. They may cause additional damage for hours to months after the main shock.
Help injured or trapped persons within the limits of your abilities.
Listen to a battery operated radio or television for emergency information.
Check on the elderly and disabled, or children who may need special help.
Stay out of damaged buildings!
Use the telephone only for emergency calls.
Clean up spilled materials.
Open cabinet and closet doors cautiously.
Inspect chimneys for damage, and be extremely careful when lighting fires in fireplaces. Chimney damage may lead to fires.
Check utilities for damage. If you smell gas, turn off the gas and do not use electrical devices (including telephones). Stay away from broken electrical wires, and turn off the main fuse box or circuit breaker. If water pipes are damaged, do not use the toilet and avoid tap water for drinking. Use your emergency supply, and melt ice cubes for additional water.

Unlike hurricanes and some other natural hazards, earthquakes strike suddenly and without warning. Nevertheless, if you live in an area at risk for earthquakes, there are things that you can do to reduce the chances that you or other members of your household will be injured, that your property will be damaged, or that your home life will be unduly disrupted by an earthquake. These things all fit under the term preparedness, because to be effective, they must be done before earthquakes occur.
